col·lab·o·ra·tion

col·lab·o·ra·tion

Noun: the action of working with someone to produce or create something.

Collaboration is an overused cultural buzzword, often under-engaged in practice. It’s an excellent concept, but for non-profits, working together with other organizations can often get brushed under the rug while paying attention to pressing matters. However, collaboration is one of the most powerful ways to move the needle forward in making our community thrive.

Over the last six months, Prima has been a quiet catalyst, connecting with other organizations — and I’m excited to highlight two of these efforts with you!

BRIDGE BUILDING

With the support of the Lancaster County Community Foundation, we’re in the process of a Community Bridge-Building endeavor, connecting with performing arts entities in the region that represent underserved groups historically divided by racial and resource boundaries. Dr. Amber Sessoms is facilitating dialogue, and a written Action Plan is expected to document plans for specific steps forward for a more equitable future in our artistic community. Inspired by this effort, leaders from Teatro Paloma, Disrupt Theatre Company, and others met with the Director of Prima’s “Into The Woods,” a first-generation Mexican American Broadway Director.

RESOURCING LOCAL MOMS

As “The Mom Show” takes the stage soon (May 5-13), I’ve had the pleasure of establishing partnerships with local organizations that support mothers. Each of these organizations is spreading the word about the show and has an exclusive code that its supporters can use to activate a portion of the ticket purchase to benefit their cause. Partners include:

  • Nurse-Family Partnership (United Way of Lancaster)

  • Milagro House

  • Bright Side Opportunities Center

  • Mornings On Orange Street

  • Montessori Academy of Lancaster

If another organization that you’re connected with would enjoy this opportunity, please email me at mitch@primatheatre.org.

Like we’re experiencing in the beauty of Spring, new life is bursting forth in many ways, including community collaborations and invigorating performances at the theater.

I look forward to sharing “The Mom Show” with you! As I’ve developed this concert experience with many female creative leaders, this feels VERY Prima — a fun, fresh, and intimate experience with powerhouse performers. See you there!

- Mitch
