Behind the Scenes of "Rated P for Parenthood

This week marked an exciting beginning at Prima as we kicked off rehearsals for the upcoming production, Rated P for Parenthood. This moment is extraordinary because our entire cast, director, and music director are brand new to the organization. It's a rare and invigorating experience to welcome fresh faces into this creative family.

Our journey commenced with what we fondly refer to as the "All Team Meeting." This gathering is more than just a logistical briefing; it's an opportunity for everyone involved in the production, from designers to cast members, to get in alignment with Prima’s organizational ethos. During this meeting, I had the privilege of sharing our guiding principles with the team.

One key topic is our decision-making filters. I invite the production team to join us in prioritizing Safety first, followed by Kindness, Beauty, and Efficiency.

Safety is essential for both emotional and physical well-being. Without a sense of security and dignity, the pursuit of beauty loses its meaning.

Kindness follows closely as we prioritize treating each other with the respect and empathy that every individual deserves.

Beauty, while central to our mission as creators, comes third, for what is art without the foundation of safety and kindness?

Finally, efficiency guides us in utilizing our time and resources wisely, always complementing the earlier priorities.

As we delve into the heart of Rated P for Parenthood, we find ourselves exploring the complexities of caretaking—the joys and inevitable challenges that come with nurturing other humans. It's a journey that both breaks us down and builds us up, offering moments of catharsis and boundless laughter along the way. Whether you've experienced parenthood firsthand or observed it from the sidelines, this show promises a lil’ bit of reflection and a whole lot of merriment.

Since our initial gathering, the team has dived headfirst into rehearsals, immersing themselves in music work and script readings. The air in the rehearsal room is thick with laughter, a testament to the camaraderie and shared enthusiasm that defines these collaborative processes. But this rehearsal process specifically has more laughter in the theater than I’ve heard in years. I look forward to sharing in that laughter with you in the weeks ahead!

"Rated P for Parenthood" is a charming mixture of humor and heartfelt moments, with similarities to popular TV shows like SNL, Modern Family, and Abbot Elementary. Additionally, it has the essence of a cheerful musical. It's an ideal present for Mother's Day month.

I, for one, am eager to witness this production unfold—bright, crisp, and full of charm—like springtime. Join us for two weeks only, from May 3rd to May 11th, and share in the laughter and warmth of Rated P for Parenthood.
